The Wednesday of Royal Ascot is a day where champions are made! The feature race is the Group One Prince of Wales’s Stakes. This is held by many to be Royal Ascot’s most important race in the modern era, though it actually dates back to 1862.
In 2016, Dartmouth, owned by the Queen, won the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot. The 10-1 chance, ridden by Olivier Peslier for trainer Sir Michael Stoute, was HM the Queen’s first winner at the meeting for three years. Dartmouth and Highland Reel came close together but the placings were unaltered; a record-equalling 75th triumph at the meeting for Stoute, and a 23rd win for the Queen.
Ascot racecourse and grounds are magnificent and provide ideal surroundings for the Royal Procession, signalling a day at Royal Ascot has truly begun. After the last race, racegoers can celebrate their winnings by joining in with the traditional singing around the Bandstand.
