From Four Wheels to Two: Bottas’ Epic Cycling Adventure

Forget private jets and luxury transfers. Formula 1® driver Valtteri Bottas has taken a rather different route to the Singapore Grand Prix, cycling almost 420km from Malaysia to Marina Bay!

The 10-time Grand Prix winner and current Cadillac F1 driver swapped his racing car for a gravel bike, taking on four days of challenging terrain, tropical heat and winding Malaysian backroads to reach Singapore ahead of this weekend’s race.

420km, Four Days and One Determined F1 Driver!

Following the Bahrain Grand Prix at Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit, Bottas decided to skip the short flight to Singapore and instead embark on an extraordinary cycling adventure.

Valtteri Bottas skipped the short-flight from Sepang to Singapore, opting to cycle 420km across 4 days from Sepang International Circuit to Marina Bay Street Circuit!

Announcing his plans on social media, the Finnish driver wrote:

“Yea I’m riding to Singapore! On the gravel roads less travelled with my new @canyon_bikes Grail CFR. See you there.”

What was initially expected to be a 350km journey quickly turned into something even more ambitious.

Over four days, Bottas navigated gravel tracks, rural roads, plantations and challenging conditions, documenting the adventure through regular social media updates.

According to Crash.net’s coverage of his journey, Bottas covered more than 160km on both Monday and Tuesday, spending almost six hours in the saddle each day.

By Wednesday, 7 October, he had officially completed 419.67km, arriving in Singapore with plenty of time to prepare for the Grand Prix weekend.

Not a bad warm-up for one of the most physically demanding races on the Formula 1 calendar!

More Than Just a Formula 1 Driver

While most fans know Bottas for his incredible success on the Formula 1 circuit, his passion for cycling extends far beyond a leisurely weekend ride.

The former Mercedes driver is an accomplished endurance cyclist, regularly competing in gravel events and tackling long-distance challenges around the world.

In fact, Bottas qualified for the 2026 UCI Gravel World Championships, although his Formula 1 commitments mean he won’t be competing.
