What’s New for Formula 1 in 2027?
One of the biggest changes comes right at the start of the season, with Bahrain returning to the opening slot on 12-14 March before Formula 1 heads directly to Saudi Arabia.
Two familiar circuits also make their return. The Portuguese Grand Prix is back at Portimão on 18-20 June, six years after the Algarve circuit last hosted Formula 1 in 2021. Türkiye also returns, with Istanbul Park hosting the Turkish Grand Prix on 1-3 October as part of a new agreement running through to 2031.

Autódromo Internacional do Algarve and Istanbul Park return for the 2027 Formula 1 season.
Elsewhere, Zandvoort drops off the calendar following the final Dutch Grand Prix in 2026. Barcelona-Catalunya is also absent in 2027 as part of its new rotational agreement, although the circuit is scheduled to return in 2028. Madrid remains Spain’s sole Grand Prix for the 2027 season.
A Record 10 Sprint Weekends, Including Monaco
Formula 1 will expand its Sprint calendar from six events to a record 10 in 2027.
Bahrain, Australia, Japan, Monaco and Abu Dhabi will all host their first Sprint weekends, while Canada, Great Britain, Italy, Brazil and Qatar complete the line-up.
For the first time in the history of the Monaco Grand Prix, fans will be treated to a Sprint around the streets of Monte Carlo. Sprint Qualifying on Friday will be followed by the Sprint on Saturday, before the traditional Grand Prix Qualifying session later that day, giving spectators even more meaningful on-track action across one of Formula 1’s most iconic weekends!

Formula 1 have confirmed that both Monaco and Abu Dhabi will host Sprint Races in 2027!
Also, for the first time, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will host a Sprint weekend, adding even more drama to Formula 1’s spectacular season finale. Sprint Qualifying on Friday will be followed by the Sprint on Saturday, before attention turns to Grand Prix Qualifying and Sunday’s decisive race under the lights at Yas Marina Circuit.
With the championship potentially going right down to the wire, imagine it all coming down to one final weekend. A Sprint. A night race. The season finale. It doesn’t get much bigger than Abu Dhabi!
